Spring Sunday

Hello lovelies,

I hope you're all having a nice lazy Sunday. I just thought I'd share a little spring love with you today while I sip my chai (which, by the way I am officially addicted to). I've been gathering photos of some of the hand ties I've made in the run up to mothers day and I had to show you this one because its my favorite. You're about to read about some seriously sweet romance too - guys take note, girls like this sort of thing!

This was a lovely seasonal bouquet I made for one of my friends (R) just before Valentines day this year. It was all organised by her boyfriend E, not as a Valentines gift but as a surprise anniversary present as they got together just before the 14th. We even went to the flower market together so he could help choose the flowers he wanted to give to her. We ended up picking a lovely selection of spring flowers - tulips, miniature narcissi and iris (I know you can get iris all year round but I still think of them as spring flowers) along with some big pink aqua roses, purple edged lisianthus, button chrysanths, and my favorite bit - apple blossom!

It was all done with much sneaking around as E had to pretend to go to the gym early in the morning while we raced off to the flower market. Thankfully though she was none the wiser and the flowers were a complete surprise to R when she came home from work.
I hope you are all enjoying the spring as much as I am. I'm still reveling in the blossoms, and lusting after all the wonderful bulbs and plants. Its a good job I don't have a garden right now as I would end up spending all my pennies on bulbs and seeds! Those of you with gardens get out there and enjoy them for me today, I'm going to go for a walk in the sunshine and dream about having a garden of my own.

Three special weddings - Part III

Hello lovelies,

Here is the last in the little series of three that my wonderful friends Cara and Nye of Lillian and Leonard Photography helped me out with.* I brought flowers and they brought cameras, and we all worked our respective magic for the lovely couple Lynne and Stuart who were getting married. Lynne and Stuart chose House for an Art Lover in Glasgow for their wedding, which is a gorgeous venue. It was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and has all the beautiful details, quirky lights and painted wood you would imagine.

Lynne and Stuart wanted simple, elegant flowers with lots of nice greenery, so we kept the coulours minimal - just green and white. I used brassicas with green hypericum berries, white lisianthus and ivy, dracena, and two varieties of eucalyptus. Each arrangement sat in a sweet little glass cake dish in the centre of each table. I also made sure that each arrangement was a little bit different from the next to give a more natural look. I like to think that each one was unique, instead of all being identical.

You can see more images of their beautiful wedding on Lillian and Leonard's blog soon. I have some more lovely pictures to share with you next week, there will be a blue and white countryside wedding full of peonies and delphniums, an intimate, modern wedding with a red, white and mango theme and a fabulous shimmering bouquet for a shimmering bride. Also coming soon - my new website!**

* Actually they have taken four lots of pictures of my work now, as they kindly took some pictures at another wedding in House for an Art Lover last week.

** I'm pretty excited about replacing the current website, however the new one is a work in progress, and will change as I improve it until its just right.

Pretty in pink

Wednesday, July 4, 2012 · Posted in , , , , , , , , ,

Today I played with pretty flowers, pretty pink flowers. I always seem to gravitate towards pink flowers - either just lovely shades of pink, or pink and vibrant green, or pink and lilac, or hot pink and red (yes, that combo works for me). I like the autumnal reds and oranges and the festive christmas shades well enough but I always get tired of them before the season is through and long for that pretty hue.

So today I got my mitts on some lovely pink tulips and double headed lisianthus and ended up creating a sweet bridesmaid's posy. It turned out a little smaller than I thought but it would be just right for a little one to carry. I had had good intentions to go out and forage for some ivy but I decided against it due to the large amounts of snow we have outside that had frozen overnight. I know that sounds like a bit of a pathetic excuse, but I'm recovering from a badly sprained ankle thats still not quite right, and I just didn't fancy injuring it again. So I tried out some of the leaves from my long suffering nameless house plant as a backing for the posy, but they didn't look quite right. I had planned to have trails of ivy surrounding the posy and cascading down from the edges, but instead I used some olive green ribbon to finish it off, and popped it in a small pewter jug which I acquired recently, isnt it cute?

Oh, and I noticed that my mini echeveria has grown itself a brand new nubbin! This is also very cute, and makes me feel very excited.

Enough of my rambling anyway, photos of my sweet pink posy are below.
I couldnt resist adding in the last photo, the cats were pestering me all day today, and were fascinated by the soft willow. So here is Lily with pussy willow.

Craig and Michelles and Antique Purple Edinburgh Museum Wedding

Hello lovelies,
Just a quick post this morning - pretty purpley antiquey flowers from a lovely little wedding back in February at the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. We used Amnesia roses, lisianthus, trachelium and queen annes lace. Gorgeous scented hyacinths and perfect white tulips. There were shiny silver tea pots and lovely old cut glass vases. I think spring will always be my favorite season. Lovely photographs kindly provided by Claire Cox Photography.
